Christmas at York Museum Gardens is a brand new and exciting attraction for York created by the team behind the award-winning Yorkshire’s Winter Wonderland and THOR’S tipi bar.

For the first time ever, the historic York Museum Gardens will be transformed into a magical after-dark experience filled with colour, music and the biggest display of lighting and special effects York has ever seen.

The journey begins in a Christmas courtyard where visitors can enjoy festive treats such as mulled wine, hot chocolate and tasty local food, a vintage fairground ride* and games stall*, or even special UV face-painting*.
Wander beneath canopies of trees drenched with seasonal colour, and discover the 12 Frames of Christmas, the rainbow forest of musical trees, and a spectacular projection onto York’s iconic ruins of St Mary’s Abbey.

Pause outside the Yorkshire Museum to admire the specially-commissioned neon installation by local Yorkshire artist Richard Wheater, then get creative at the musical tree stumps before reaching the 14th century Hospitium.
Look out for Santa in his secret bothy, stroll through a tunnel of shimmering lights and enjoy the ever-changing sparkling mirror balls. The enchanted walk ends with the Finale of Fire on the Library lawn, and even the chance to toast your own marshmallows* in the Undercroft’s Fire Bar!
